The Professional Tennis Players Association ( PTPA) is an association of male and female tennis players founded by the players Vasek Pospisil and Novak Djokovic. The group represents singles players in the top 500 and doubles players in the top 200 of the ATP Rankings and WTA Rankings . It was founded by players who had previously been members of the Association of Tennis Professionals Players Council.
PTPA ( puh- theh- puh) (1) a new players association, men only (so far), arising from player meetings in NY, and seemingly designed to scoff at the efforts (if any) of the ATP’s board of directors and Players’ Council to effect change in men’s tennis.
What is the PTPA? The PTPA is an association for the defence of the interests of professional players, distinct from the ATP. It was officially born in August of 2020 to defend the interests of players (and even female players, Pospisil told us). Its mission is to represent the top 500 singles players in men’s tennis and the top 200 doubles players.
Created by the players for the players, the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) is an integrated association for professional tennis players. Founded by Vasek Pospisil and Novak Djokovic in 2020, the PTPA is a not-for-profit corporation based in Canada that addresses player challenges and influences fair change within the business of professional tennis.
The PTPA is uniting and mobilizing tennis players from around the globe in order to create transparency and fairness throughout decision-making in professional tennis. Together we are building an equitable and sustainable competitive environment for players today, and for generations to come.

According to world No 1 Novak Djokovic, the ATP will not allow any players who are members of the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) or any other similar organisation in tennis to be on the ATP Player Council, something that may just drive a knife through the ranks of the ATP Tour. Some players, like Diego Schwartzman and Milos Raonic, are very much in favour of the PTPA, while others, including Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and Dominic Thiem are not.
